:- 3.0 out of 5 stars from Donna V. -- I loved the beginning but it dragged after 50-60% : I'm not sure what happened because I enjoyed the beginning of the book and liked the writing. But then the book started to drag for me, and there were times the H suddenly had a new skill/ability but I never saw her learning it. That is OK sometimes, but in this book, it happened a number of times. I understand these are teen characters but the lack of communication and "will you be my friend" didn't work for me. Maybe I'm too old for this book; although I enjoy many YA books. The dragons were not fully developed for me. This is a good read but it was just middle of the road for me. The characters are spread over all social levels with dragons added to the mix. This is NOT Anne McCaffrey's dragon, but a different beast altogether. - 3.0 out of 5 stars from C Sul -- Good writing but a rushed story : Part Dragonriders of Pern (Anne McCaffrey), part Dragon Jousters (Mercedes Lackey), with some magical schooling taking place in a cave, this book tried hard to be too many things at once. Everything was rushed (the magic, the schooling, the training, the romance, the rivalry, the Game/politics, the parentage reveals). Each of those plot points could have been fleshed out more for depth and to spend more time in this interesting world.
